Experienced audio description (AD) expert (Freelance project May 2021 – August 31st, 2022) The Oogvereniging represents all people with eye disorders in the Netherlands and is committed to make sure people with an eye condition or an eye condition in combination with a hearing impairment can participate in everyday society like anybody else. The Oogvereniging provides information, advocacy and member contact. More information on Oogvereniging at app.mailvox.it/nl/pvnmc4/qvmp7x/hvan72u/uf/6/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5vb2d2ZXJlbmlnaW5nLm5s?_d=638&_c=231aa7ea. In the framework of the awareness-raising project PARVIS (Promoting Awareness on the Rights of Visually Disabled People in an Inclusive Society), Oogvereniging is looking for an experienced audio description (AD) expert. CONTEXT The PARVIS project is led by EBU, SRF (the Swedish organization of the visually impaired) and Oogvereniging with 7 other EU countries as participants. One of the activities PARVIS is about AD and runs from March 1, 2021 until August 31st, 2022. TASKS EU legislations on access to information fail to include an audio description strand with clear and harmonised technical specifications. Together with a project team of EBU and SRF people, you will therefore produce generic European AD guidelines. The EBU guidelines can be used for audio describing in different areas, such as films, short videos, infographics, theatre, museums, arts and sports. The EBU guidelines for audio description aim at providing a quality tool as a European standard with a reference in legislation on national and EU level. You will contribute with your expertise and experience in collecting and processing good practices across Europe, and in the guidelines drafting process (estimated time investment 15 days). Next to setting up these guidelines, you will also produce AD for a 20- minute compilation video about ‘A day in the life of a visually impaired person’ in English, in close link with the activity leader (estimated time investment 15 days). PROFILE The project team is looking for an advanced audio describer with at least five to ten years proven experience in pre-recorded and live event audio describing. The audio describer:  has a deep understanding of the different stages, aspects and requirements involved in the production process of audio description  must be fluent in speaking and writing English and must be familiar with English terminology within the audio description field and visual disability field.  has the experience and skills to train new audio describers and is aware of (local) good practice AD guidelines.  is comfortable with working in an international setting.  Issues invoices from an EU-27 country, Iceland, Lichtenstein or Serbia. A degree in audio describing and knowledge of EBU would be an asset, as would familiarity with legislative aspects around accessibility and the implementation of the UNCRPD. START Ideally the role will start at May 15th 2021. BUDGET Candidates are expected to make an offer based on the context, tasks and profile detailed above. APPLICATION PROCESS Please send your application with a personal motivation letter before April 15th, 2021, to Astrid Pieterse at astrid.pieterse@oogvereniging.nl. Should you have any technical queries, do not hesitate to contact the PARVIS AD activity leader, Henrik Gotesson, at Henrik.Gotesson@srf.nu, with copy to astrid.pieterse@oogvereniging.nl.
